Muscle Strain and Sprain
Muscle Strain:
- Definition: A muscle strain occurs when muscle fibers are overstretched or torn. It can happen suddenly (acute) or develop over time (chronic).
- Causes: Overuse, improper use, fatigue, or accidents.
- Symptoms: Pain, swelling, muscle spasms, and limited ability to move the affected muscle.
Sprain:
- Definition: A sprain involves the stretching or tearing of ligaments, the fibrous tissues connecting bones at joints.
- Causes: Sudden twists or impacts that force a joint out of its normal position.
- Symptoms: Pain, swelling, bruising, and difficulty using the joint.
