Sacroiliitis: Overview

Sacroiliitis is an inflammation of one or both of the sacroiliac joints, located where the lower spine and pelvis connect. This condition can cause pain in the buttocks or lower back, and can extend down one or both legs. Standing for long periods or climbing stairs can worsen the pain.

Symptoms:

  • Lower back pain
  • Buttock pain
  • Pain extending down the legs
  • Worsening pain with prolonged standing or stair climbing
  • Stiffness in the hips and lower back
