Knee Rheumatoid Arthritis: Details and Treatment by Shape-and-Strength Center
Rheumatoid Arthritis (RA) of the Knee:
Rheumatoid arthritis is an autoimmune condition where the immune system mistakenly attacks the joints, causing inflammation. When it affects the knees, it can lead to:
- Chronic pain and stiffness: Often worse in the morning or after periods of inactivity.
- Swelling: Due to inflammation of the joint lining.
- Reduced range of motion: Making it difficult to bend or straighten the knee.
- Joint damage: Over time, the inflammation can damage the cartilage and bones within the knee joint.
- Deformity: In severe cases, the knee joint may become deformed.
Symptoms:
- Pain and swelling in the knees
- Morning stiffness lasting more than 30 minutes
- Warmth and redness around the knee joint
- Fatigue and general malaise
- Symmetrical joint involvement (both knees)
